Well, now that SynthScape is over, I feel it best to report my take on the event.
I must say, it was pretty interesting meeting other synthwave producers in person for the first time, something I once would've deemed impossible due to how separated most of us are from each other. I had some mild embarrassment being the only host at Boulevard Tavern not wearing a suit, but I think the leather jacket helped with the vibe in some ways.
Marko Maric and DJ Spaz were both pleasures to talk to, even if that wasn't unexpected for Marko due to being interviewed on his program early this year. Jon Reilly, aka Jon of the Shred, while he clearly had a few drinks due to arriving as early as he did, was also worth talking to, and we had spent quite a bit of time discussing the Halloween movies, among other things, before others showed up. Jon, if you're reading this, I particularly appreciate the compliments of the authenticity of my work as 80s-style.
The four of us spent some of the time from 10 PM onward DJ'ing synthwave music for the scene, stuff I'm glad that my father and my half brother could both listen to. In this time, I happened to have played an exclusive preview of my upcoming album. The rest of the world will be able to hear it soon enough. Sadly, I had to bail shortly after my own set due to my day today, but being the first one at the tavern sort of made up for it.
Overall, very much worth attending! I only hope I'll be able to do it again with more producers sometime!
